Epicenter 2016 Teams

Fnatic – direct Invite

The Swedish top team Fnatic was invited, despite some roster changes, directly to the Epicenter 2016 and saves the way through the qualification. The big wins have been missing lately, but the team around olofmeister definitely has everything they need.

G2 Esports – direct Invite

G2 Esports was also directly invited to participate in the LAN event. The French team impressed with a second place at the StarLadder StarSeries S2.

Na’Vi – direct Invite

Natus Vincere is in top form and wants to follow the recent victory at ESL One: New York. As a representative of the CIS region, Na’Vi would have Na’Vi a home game at Epicenter 2016, but before that they have to make it from the group stage to the playoffs.

NiP – direct Invite

Ninjas in pyjamas is one of the most popular CS:GO teams. The Multi-Gaming Association also has squads in various other games and enjoys a large fan base. NiP recently signed a sponsoring deal with betway eSports.

SK Gaming – direct Invite

Teamcaptain “FalleN” has been playing in the professional scene since 2005, but at that time with a CS 1.6 team. Today the captain has led his team to the greatest possible success, as the last two major tournaments went to the Brazilian squad.

Virtus.pro – direct Invite

Virtus.pro and SK Gaming have been dueling for the first place in the eternal CS:GO team ranking for some time now. At Epicenter 2016 the Poles have the chance to overtake the reigning Major Champion.

Hellraisers – CIS Qualification

In the CIS qualification Hellraisers had to prevail against teams like FilpSid3 Tactics, Tengri and Gambit Gaming. This means that the Ukrainian-Slovak team is well deserved in the group phase of Epicenter 2016. A performance on the stage of the Main Event would also be something like a home tournament for Hellraisers. On Cobblestone Hellraisers are a particularly hot tip for CS bets, because on Cobble the team could already prove itself several times against supposedly overpowering opponents.

Dignitas – EU Qualification

In the European qualification Team Dignitas was able to prevail against its opponents and takes part in the Main Event of the Epicenter 2016. The team recently impressed with a victory at the WESG 2016, where they prevailed against Russia in the final and secured $30,000 in prize money.

Prize money

With $500,000 in prize money, Epicenter 2016 is in the top 10 of the highest endowed CS:GO tournaments. The sum will be divided among all tournament participants, even the teams that are eliminated in the group phase will receive a small portion of the cake.

Prize money distribution

1st place – $250,000
2nd place – $100,000
3rd – 4th place – $40,000
5th-6th place – $20,000
7th – 8th place – $15,000

Tournament format

Group stage

In the group stage, the eight teams play against each other in two groups in a best-of-two round robin. This means that each team meets all its group opponents once in a BO2 match, so a draw is also possible. The three teams with the highest number of points per group will be promoted to the playoffs and will play at the Main Event in Moscow in front of an assembled audience.

Playoffs

The knockout phase begins with the quarter-finals, with the group winners saving this round and entering the semi-finals directly. A defeat in the knockout phase is the same as being eliminated from the tournament. All playoff games are played in best-of-three mode.
